the making it up collective

Making It Up is the inaugural event of the Making It Up Collective,

and will occur August 6th, 7th, and 8th at Arts at the Armory in Somerville, MA.

It features the work of Boston area artists Shir Livne, Anna Pancoast, Bosede Ajibola Opetubo, Catherine LeComte Lecce, and Jocelyn Elizabeth, bound by their shared experiences walking the tightrope of motherhood and creative practice without a safety net. Reflecting the spontaneity, creativity and curiosity that define both parenting and artmaking, this three-day celebration weaves together live performance, visual art and collaborative creation

Each artist contributes individual works across diverse mediums — including circus arts, mixed media painting, photography, and textiles–that reflect shifting their identities catalyzed by motherhood. Together, they invite the audience to help shape a new piece, offering space to explore the ever-evolving nature of what a mother is— or “should” be — today.

Making It Up embraces the reality that there is no single way to create, care, or collaborate. Through this gathering, the artists encourage themselves, each other, and others to act with courage, embrace vulnerability, and claim space for their stories.

The event welcomes parents, those considering parenthood, those reflecting on family relationships, and anyone interested in how creativity and caregiving intersect. Participate, reflect, and co-create — finding meaning not in perfection, but in the act of making it up as we go.
